Freelance Work 🎚️
May 2019 - Present
Since May 2019, I have been an exclusively freelance audio engineer, working on a wide range of events and
achieving a range of qualifications/awards during my time so far in this position. In
combination with my freelance work, I have spent seven years working in the industry, and
prior to this, I trained in formal education for three years.
From late 2022 until December 2024, I set up and ran a small recording studio alongside. In
the studio I accommodated a variety of projects with artists locally and nationally on
projects including work on singles, albums live performance videos, live pre-production
rehearsals and mastering projects. Since departing my work at the studio, I have taken on
work as a mastering engineer under the alias 'Fine City Mastering'.
Touring Work ✈️
2022 - Present
I have toured as a Front of House Engineer, Monitor Engineer and Tour Manager across the UK and Europe with a range of artists spanning different genres and types of show.
I am well experienced in touring a show into different types of venues on a daily basis, and understand the requriements and etiquette of a member of a touring party. I am good at integrating myself into a team both as a member of a tour and also a guest at a venue.
As a musician myself, I work well with musicians onstage. I have toured with a range of musical setups (including those with tracks), so am familiar with even the weirdest of instruments!
For my work with Scottish indie rock outfit Swim School, I operated live sound and tour managed.
Since 2024, I handled audio and TM duties for their shows, in academy size venues including O2
Bristol, Birmingham, Liverpool and more, on stages at festivals across the UK and Europe
including Reading & Leeds Festival UK, Rock for People Festival CZ, and Dauwpop Festival
NL. My work with the band also included a tour as support with Pale Waves and,
in the studio, I worked with the band to master their debut album.
For my work with Pale Blue Eyes, I covered shows in UK and Europe in 2024 operating Front of House, Monitors, and broadcast, in venues such as Omeara, on 3voor12 (a live broadcast) and at Reeperbahn Festival Hamburg.
Corporate Events 💼
2019 - Present
I have extensive experience in corporate event environments, assuming roles of A1, A2, and stage technician.
My experience on these types of events includes working with clients such as Amazon, Warner Brothers, Toni & Guy, YouTube, Aviva, Global, and more. This experience means that I understand the unique qualities and needs of a corporate event.
I am confident in client-facing positions, and am able to follow a script or show caller. I am confident with comms systems including GreenGo, and understand the dynamic of a team in a corporate scenario.
I am proficient in relevant software and tools for corporate events, including QLab, Dante Networking, Wireless Workbench, and more.
Venue Technician 🏟️
2018 - 2024 (contracted) - Present (freelance)
As a freelancer, I often take work as in-house technician, assuming FOH, Monitors or Audio 1 roles for Live Music, Corporate and Club events. Past and current venues that I work in this capacity for include (but are not limited to) HERE at Outernet, O2 Brixton Academy, Norwich Waterfront and Norwich Arts Centre.
After freelancing for the company for six years working on a range of live events, recordings
and broadcasts, I spent some time employed at Epic Studios in Norwich as the Lead Audio Technician. During
my time in employment, I took a lead on tasks required by the audio department, which
included audio management of all events across multiple spaces, day to day repairs and maintenance, preparation of equipment, showfiles and software for events, administrative tasks such as staffing/rotas for other audio technicians, booking
freelancers, advancing shows, noise management (using software such as Smaart and liaising with the local
council, The Music Venues Trust to adhere to noise restrictions in place) and teaching/training of a younger aspiring sound technician. I departed from Epic Studios in October 2024.
As my first role as an audio technician, I worked at OPENNorwich, formerly the UK’s biggest participant in Independent Venue
Week. At the venue, made up of a 1500-capacity main room and a 400-capacity club, I fulfilled the role of
audiovisual technician. From 2019 onwards I fulfilled the role of lead audio technician and
was part of a team involved in a full PA system upgrade with KV2 Audio. I was responsible
for the operation of Yamaha CL & QL Consoles for a range of events comprising of live
music, club nights, conferencing, dance and more.
Broadcast & Recording 📻
July 2019 - Present
As part of my audio work, I have spent time as a Broadcast Assistant for the BBC. This role covers producing
and audio engineering a high number of live musical performances (soloists, duos, and bands) on air
as well as facilitating and recording location-based projects for live broadcast or pre-
record. This work often required the recording, mixing and mastering of high-quality audio
on short turnaround projects. Tight deadlines in this line of work enhanced my ability to
deploy my skills accurately and efficiently.
Beyond my broadcast work, I have spent time operating a recording studio, working with musicians from across the globe to produce,
record, mix and master singles, EPs, albums and live performances (often to camera). When I closed my studio,
I streamlined my studio work to focus primarily on mastering and audio restoration, a passion which I discovered during my studio endeavours.
I house my portfolio of work for this at finecitymastering.com.
My recording/broadcast work has featured on BBC Radio 1, BBC Radio 2, BBC Radio 6, BBC Introcucing, NPR (Tiny Desk), Amazing Radio, Radio X and Channel 4. Links to some of my studio work below:
